HOW THIS CLIMATE AFFECTS YOUR SKIN & HAIR

(Coming Soon) Mediterranean Equinox

We make things that work better and last longer. Our products solve real problems with clean design and honest materials.

This is one of the most naturally balanced climates for skin. Oil production, hydration and comfort may remain relatively stable, although long days outdoors can still cause dehydration, sun exposure and mild T-zone shine. Maintain rather than radically change your routine: use a light hydrating serum, suitable daily moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Cleanse gently at night to remove sunscreen and everyday environmental buildup. Hair generally behaves well because atmospheric moisture is neither excessive nor very low. Use your normal shampoo and conditioner, adding a light leave-in treatment if wind or sun makes the ends dry. Even in comfortable weather, continue drinking water during extended sightseeing rather than waiting until you feel thirsty.

Maintain, Protect and Replenish

Temperatures between 18°C and 23°C with humidity between 40% and 60% are generally comfortable for many skin types. The air is neither excessively humid nor extremely dry, allowing the skin to maintain a relatively balanced surface.

However, a tourist may still spend four to five hours walking outdoors without drinking enough water. Sunlight, breeze, sunscreen, pollution and repeated movement into indoor environments can gradually affect the skin. The forehead and nose may develop slight shine, while the cheeks may feel mildly dry by the end of the day.

What may happen to your skin:

  • Generally balanced skin: Oil and hydration may remain relatively stable during normal daily activity.
  • Mild dehydration after long outings: Limited water intake can leave the skin looking tired or less comfortable.
  • Slight T-zone shine: Walking and sun exposure may increase oil around the forehead and nose.
  • Sun-related stress: Comfortable temperatures can make travellers underestimate prolonged ultraviolet exposure.
  • Dryness after indoor exposure: Heating or air-conditioning may create temporary tightness around the cheeks and mouth.

The right approach:

The priority is to maintain the skin’s existing balance and protect it throughout the day. Choose:

  • A light hydrating serum containing glycerin, hyaluronic acid or panthenol
  • A comfortable lotion or gel-cream suited to the individual’s skin type
  • Antioxidant and soothing ingredients where appropriate
  • Gentle cleansing to remove sunscreen and daily environmental buildup
  • Broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher; SPF 50 may be preferred for prolonged outdoor exposure
  • Regular water intake during sightseeing and travel

The FDA notes that broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against both UVA and UVB radiation and recommends SPF 30 or higher in its current consumer guidance. Sunscreen should be reapplied according to the product label and more frequently when swimming or sweating.  The ideal mantra for this weather is: Maintain, Protect and Replenish. This climate may not require a dramatic skincare adjustment, but consistent hydration and sun protection remain essential during long days outdoors.
