HOW THIS CLIMATE AFFECTS YOUR SKIN & HAIR

(Coming Soon) Gentle Baltic Transition

We make things that work better and last longer. Our products solve real problems with clean design and honest materials.

Balanced humidity helps, but colder temperatures and wind can still make exposed skin gradually feel tight. The cheeks, lips and eye area usually require more support than the T-zone. Use a hydrating serum followed by a comfortable lotion or light cream containing barrier-supporting lipids. Cleanse gently, avoid very hot water and continue broad-spectrum sun protection during prolonged outdoor activities. Hair is generally manageable in this humidity range but may become slightly dry or static in heated indoor environments. Use regular shampoo and conditioner, concentrating conditioner on the lengths and ends. A small amount of leave-in serum can reduce flyaways. Drink water regularly even though cold weather makes thirst less obvious.

Maintain, Nourish and Protect

Humidity between 40% and 60% provides a relatively balanced environment, but temperatures of 4-12°C can still leave exposed skin feeling cool, tight or uncomfortable. During a tourist trip, four to five hours of walking may include cold breeze, light rain, sunshine and repeated movement between outdoor conditions and heated interiors.

Because perspiration is less obvious, travellers may underestimate their need for water. By evening, the face may appear normal but feel less supple, particularly around the cheeks, lips and eye area. Environmental humidity, temperature and airflow can affect skin-water measurements, while the water content of the stratum corneum is important for maintaining its normal physical properties.

What may happen to your skin:

  • Generally balanced skin: Oiliness and hydration may remain relatively stable during shorter outings.
  • Gradual dehydration: Limited water intake may leave the skin feeling tired or less comfortable after several hours.
  • Mild cheek tightness: Cold breeze may affect exposed areas even when humidity is balanced.
  • Dry lips and eye area: These delicate areas may require more protection than the rest of the face.
  • Underestimated sun exposure: Cold temperatures can make prolonged ultraviolet exposure feel less obvious.

The right approach:

The priority is to maintain balance while providing light nourishment and daily protection. Choose:

  • A hydrating serum containing glycerin, hyaluronic acid or panthenol
  • A comfortable lotion or light cream containing ceramides or squalane
  • A richer product used only on naturally dry or wind-exposed areas
  • Gentle evening cleansing to remove sunscreen, makeup and daily buildup
  • Broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen; SPF 50 may be selected for extended outdoor exposure
  • Lip balm and regular water intake throughout sightseeing

Cold or cloudy weather does not eliminate ultraviolet exposure. FDA guidance recommends broad-spectrum sunscreen and advises following the product’s instructions for application and reapplication. The ideal mantra for this weather is: Maintain, Nourish and Protect. This relatively balanced climate does not require an extreme routine, but cold air still calls for consistent hydration, a light moisturising layer and sun protection.
