HOW THIS CLIMATE AFFECTS YOUR SKIN & HAIR
We make things that work better and last longer. Our products solve real problems with clean design and honest materials.
In very humid tropical weather, skin can look shiny, sweaty and oily while still becoming dehydrated underneath-particularly after four to five hours of sightseeing without enough water. Sweat, sunscreen, pollution and sebum can accumulate and make the skin feel sticky or congested. Choose lightweight, water-based serums with glycerin or hyaluronic acid, refreshing gel textures and non-comedogenic sunscreen. Avoid thick, oily creams and cleanse gently after a long outdoor day. Hair absorbs moisture from humid air, making frizz, puffiness or limp roots common. Use lightweight conditioner, a small amount of anti-frizz leave-in and avoid heavy scalp oils. The mantra is Hydrate-Don’t Over-Moisturize.
Imagine spending four to five hours away from home. During a tourist trip, this may include walking, sightseeing and repeatedly moving between outdoor humidity and air-conditioned interiors. These outings are often accompanied by not drinking enough water, leaving both the body and skin dehydrated. Sugary and alcoholic drinks may replace water without adequately supporting hydration.
In warm, extremely humid conditions, the skin may appear shiny, sweaty and oily-but this does not necessarily mean it contains enough water. Research shows that hot environments can increase perspiration, sebum, greasiness and transepidermal water loss. As sweat later evaporates, hydration may decrease, particularly around the cheeks.
The priority is to replenish water without overwhelming the skin with heavy layers. Choose:
For heavy sweating, choose sunscreen labelled water resistant and follow its stated reapplication instructions; water-resistant claims are tested for either 40 or 80 minutes.
The ideal mantra for this weather is: Hydrate - Don’t Moisturize. This does not mean avoiding moisturising ingredients completely. It means replacing thick, oily creams with breathable, water-rich formulas that keep the skin comfortable in extreme humidity.
