HOW THIS CLIMATE AFFECTS YOUR SKIN & HAIR

(Coming Soon) Equatorial Monsoon

We make things that work better and last longer. Our products solve real problems with clean design and honest materials.

Extreme heat and humidity can leave skin drenched in sweat and visibly oily while still becoming dehydrated after several hours outdoors without enough water. Sweat, sebum, sunscreen and pollution can create a sticky, congested surface. Focus on water-based hydration rather than heavy moisturising: use a lightweight humectant serum, gel-lotion, gentle cleanser and non-comedogenic, water-resistant sunscreen. Clean the skin thoroughly but gently after a long day outside. Hair may become extremely frizzy, limp or oily at the roots. Use a light shampoo, conditioner mainly on the lengths and a small amount of anti-frizz leave-in. Hydrate-don’t over-moisturize.

Cool, Clean and Hydrate Lightly

Imagine spending four to five hours away from home in intense heat and monsoon humidity. Travelling, sightseeing and moving between heavily air-conditioned interiors and hot outdoor surroundings can leave the body needing more water than usual. When you do not drink enough water, the skin may become dehydrated even though its surface looks wet, shiny and oily.

In temperatures above 35°C and humidity above 80%, perspiration can become continuous. Sweat mixes with sebum, sunscreen, makeup, dust and environmental particles, creating a sticky layer over the skin. The forehead and nose may become visibly oily, while the cheeks and area around the mouth can feel tight or uncomfortable. High heat, humidity and repeated climate changes can alter the skin’s moisture balance and barrier behaviour.

What may happen to your skin:

  • Continuous sweating and shine: Intense heat stimulates perspiration, while humidity slows the evaporation of sweat from the skin.
  • Dehydration beneath the oil: The face may look moist or greasy while the skin underneath feels tired, tight or lacking in water.
  • Sticky environmental buildup: Sweat, sunscreen, sebum and pollution can remain on the surface for several hours.
  • Greater risk of congestion: The accumulated mixture may make pores appear blocked and leave oily or acne-prone skin uncomfortable.
  • Heavy products may feel suffocating: Rich creams, facial oils and thick balms can trap heat and feel greasy in extreme humidity.

The right approach

The priority is to cool, cleanse and replenish water without adding unnecessary heaviness. Choose:

  • Lightweight, water-based serums containing glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol or beta-glucan
  • A refreshing gel-lotion or oil-free fluid rather than a rich cream
  • A gentle, low-foaming cleanser to remove sweat, sunscreen and pollution
  • Double cleansing at night when wearing water-resistant sunscreen or makeup
  • Lightweight, non-comedogenic, broad-spectrum SPF 50 or 50+ sunscreen with water resistance
  • Regular water intake, particularly during long outdoor trips

The ideal mantra for this weather is: Cool, Clean and Hydrate Lightly. Skin needs water and freshness, but it should not be covered with thick, oily layers that may feel uncomfortable in extreme monsoon humidity.
