HOW THIS CLIMATE AFFECTS YOUR SKIN & HAIR
We make things that work better and last longer. Our products solve real problems with clean design and honest materials.
Cold, humid outdoor air may initially keep skin comfortable, but wind and indoor heating can gradually dry the cheeks, lips and eye area. Apply a hydrating serum and a light-to-medium moisturising cream containing ceramides or squalane. Use lip balm during windy conditions and cleanse with a mild formulation at night. Broad-spectrum sunscreen remains important for extended outdoor activities. Hair may develop mild frizz outdoors but feel drier once exposed to heated indoor air, creating a combination of flyaways and dry ends. Use regular conditioner and a lightweight leave-in cream through the lengths. Avoid washing excessively and use warm rather than very hot water for both hair and skin.
Cold, humid weather may include intermittent rain, clouds, coastal wind and occasional sunshine. During four to five hours outdoors, travellers may drink little water because they do not feel hot or sweaty. Coffee, sugary drinks or alcohol may also replace water during sightseeing stops, leaving the body and skin less adequately hydrated.
Humidity between 60% and 80% may initially help the skin feel comfortable, but cold wind can still affect exposed areas. The nose and forehead may remain relatively balanced, while the cheeks, lips and area around the eyes begin to feel tight. Once indoors, heating may reduce environmental humidity and make dryness more noticeable. Research examining winter indoor conditions found measurable changes in hydration and barrier-related skin parameters and reported benefits from ceramide-containing creams.
The priority is to preserve moisture while shielding exposed skin from wind and climate changes. Choose:
After returning indoors, avoid washing the face repeatedly or using very hot water. Cleanse once at the end of the day and immediately follow with serum and lotion. The ideal mantra for this weather is: Balance Moisture - Guard Against Wind. The skin needs enough protection to remain comfortable, but the routine does not need to become excessively rich while outdoor humidity remains moderately high.
